HTC First is set to go on sale from April 12, 2013 in United States through AT&T at a price of $99.99 ranging in 4 colors (black, white, red and pale blue). There is no time set for the launch in India though.

Facebook Home was launched recently and HTC First is the first phone to be officially built specially with Facebook Home. Understanding a market has always been a challenge to HTC in India.

Being one of the top countries with over 71 million active users on Facebook (as per one estimate), HTC should have also planned to launch HTC First in India which will only be available on AT&T from April 12.

Here are the reasons why Facebook and HTC have failed with this release: India is a potential market with major users accessing social networks from mobile. For a big market like US, HTC First seems irrelevant. HTC First is a dull beast with all its features compared to the handsets people tend to buy in US.

HTC should learn the fact that high configuration mobiles like HTC Butterfly, HTC One X+ have lost the market in India. Currently, HTC First will only be available in US for just $99.99 (Rs. 5,400). India is a potential market for low cost mobiles which has been proved with increase in sales of Nokia devices in recent times which cost much lesser than those high end beasts.

Micromax and other vendors in India are a great example for companies like HTC which should learn to market their products in India. Facebook Home won’t be available any sooner in India except for a fewer devices but Facebook and HTC First should have looked at emerging markets first.

Facebook Home is a layer or say a deep insight of the original Facebook application which re-frames the home screens of the Android mobile into a Facebook screen called “Facebook Home”. This is a visually rich, swipe enabled version of the original Facebook Feed we use. Chat Heads is a Facebook invented feature which enables more picture-perfect messaging from the home screen.

Home is set to launch on April 12 in the US first and later to a worldwide release. Facebook Home is set to work on Jelly Bean, Ice Cream Sandwich but not Gingerbread.

Indians can now finally buy Google Nexus 7 directly from Google Play Store. As of now it is the only device available for purchase in the Google Play Store.

Microsoft has released a few system requirements to be able to support Office 365  with Office on Demand Services of which include Windows 7 or Windows 8 Release Preview as the minimum operating system, Mozilla Firefox 12 or above, Internet Explorer 9 or above, Chrome 18 or later and Safari 5 or later.
